Disney are now releasing four more classic Disney films, but adding their awesome and amazing Disney Digital 3D. This started with The Lion King (in 3D), undoubtedly the greatest Disney Animated Classic of all time, which should still be in a cinema near you. Now, according to IMDb, this film has, to date, taken around $86M. This is for an 18 year old film which most of us own on DVD anyway, which has already been re-released into cinemas in boring digital at some point during the 2000s. This 3D re-release, and its resultant success is truly astonishing, and it delivers a crushing blow to original film making.

I have to interject there and say that this is half true and half not… If you look at it this way. Did you see all the other Disney films at the movies?? I know I didn’t so I am relishing the opertuinty to see them not in 3d but on the big screen. Heck i went to see back to the future despite owning it and i’ll see ghostbusters too! All the theatres where I am are showing them in both 2d and 3d so your point about it is invalid. They are trying to connect with the new generation and say we arnt just Hannah Montana or high school musical. This is what Disney is all about and I applaud them. Disney seem to have forgotten it all started with a mouse, the only Mickey mouse programming is aimed At little kids and is frankly an abomination to walt himself. Have you been to the parks btw?? Seen “mickeys philharmagic”? As that is a trully amazing feat of 3d. You grab the air at things floating a couple of feet from your eyes. The difference is that is intended 3d viewing. Disney have taken what they have there and implemented it into a medium that will hopefully touch a new generation. Kids who were young when the movies came out will take their kids now. I dont condone the 3d aspect nor support it but I am loving that some of the best prices of animated cinema are going to be just that once again for a little while.
